Josh Tardy is one of Maine’s most recognized political figures and is considered an expert on state government and politics. After serving eight years in the Maine Legislature, Josh has joined Mitchell Tardy Government Affairs in order to put his experience and knowledge to work for their clients.
Josh served eight years in the Maine House of Representatives as State Representative for District 25, sitting on the Legislature’s Taxation Committee and the Apportionment Commission. In addition, Josh served six years in leadership positions for the House Republican Caucus; and was elected House Republican leader from 2006-2010. Under Josh’s leadership the House Republicans secured a majority in the November 2010 elections, the first majority for the Republican Party in the Maine House in over 35 years.
Josh has been active in both Maine and national politics. In addition to serving as House Republican Leader, Josh was Chairman of the state-wide coordinated campaigns for the Republican Party in 2010; an election cycle that resulted in Maine Republicans capturing the governorship and a majority in both chambers of the Maine Legislature. On the national stage, Josh was Vice-Chair for the McCain Presidential Campaign in Maine and Chairman of the Maine delegation to the 2008 Republican National Convention.
Additionally, Josh was appointed by Governor Baldacci to serve as Vice-Chair of the Aroostook Rail Advisory Task Force, which was established to consider the acquisition of railways in Northern Maine. Moreover, Josh has served on the Judicial Branch Courthouse Advisory Committee, as well as the Maine Justice Action Group, which coordinates planning for legal aid to low-income and elderly Mainers. Currently, Josh serves on the Maine State Chamber Board of Directors and is Chair of its Taxation Policy Committee. He was named Chair of Governor LePage’s Judicial Selection Committee.
Josh is also a practicing trial attorney with nearly 20 years of experience in the courtroom. He is a founding partner of Irwin, Tardy & Morris and specializes in commercial and civil litigation.
Josh is a life-long Maine resident. He received his B.A. from the University of Maine in 1990, and earned his law degree from the University of Maine School of Law in 1993.
