Jim Mitchell is one of Maine’s leading lobbyists. As founder and partner of James F. Mitchell Company, LLC, Mitchell has been advocating on behalf of various client interests for nearly 20 years at the Maine Legislature.
In 2010, Mitchell along with former Republican House Leader Josh Tardy formed Mitchell Tardy Government Affairs. The firm’s current clients include the state’s largest health insurer, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, the state’s largest electric utility, Central Maine Power, the state’s largest landowner, JD Irving and the state’s largest hospital network, Maine Health. In addition, the firm represents several other major corporations and organizations with interests in Maine including Waste Management, Eli Lilly, Oracle, PhRMA, P&G, and the Grocery Manufacturers Association.
Mitchell has been active in Maine politics for over 25 years and has served as Chairman of the Maine Democratic Party; ran as a candidate for the U.S. Congress, and served as campaign manager or strategic advisor for campaigns for U.S. Congress, Governor and U.S. Senator. Mitchell was very active in Governor John Baldacci’s two campaigns for Governor as a senior advisor.
At the Maine Legislature and with administrative agencies, Mitchell has been primarily involved in issues related to energy, the environment, tax policy, healthcare and business regulation. In addition, Mitchell helped devise and implement all the government, public and community relations efforts for one of Maine’s largest infrastructure projects, the development and construction of the Maritimes & Northeast Pipeline.
Prior to starting his own firm, Mitchell was President of Public Affairs Group, an Augusta, Maine based government affairs firm. He also previously spent time working for other firms in public relations and advertising in Boston and Chicago.
Mitchell is a graduate of Dartmouth College and resides in Winthrop, Maine and Toronto, Ontario.
